Using A Disposable Camera
To Document Your Vacation Or Family Holiday (SESSION 1)
ages 5-10
Wen will begin
the session with a brief history of photography and cameras.
She'll share with participants a variety of vintage and modern day
cameras. Student s will also explore how photographs began and the
cameras that were used. Actual vintage tintype photographs will be
shown. Then the children will learn techniques to take better
images with a disposable camera. Indoor and outdoor photography
will be discussed and photographed. Focusing distance and flash
coverage ranges will be tested by each student and their camera. Cameras
will be collected for over night processing. Images processed from the
previous day's shoot will be critiqued. Student will have the
opportunity to interact toward one another's images through the critique
process. Participants will have the opportunity to review and
discuss their images, including image composition. After the
critique session, students will design their photograph album.
Students will again photograph with another camera using the skills
discussed. Cameras will be collected for overnight processing.

The
day will begin with a critique session of the previous day's shoot.
After the critique session, students will add images to their
photograph album. Students will then select their best images for mounting
and framing. Cropping and composition will be discussed.
Students will mount and frame at least two images. In addition,
student will select images from their previous shoots to make special
occasion cards. Students
will leave the PHOTOlearn camp with all their images and negatives.

Introduction
To 35mm B&W and Color Photography
(SESSION 1)
ages 7-15 (SESSION ONE)
Starting
with a short history of 35mm cameras, students will see variety of vintage
and modern day 35mm cameras.
Children will use their 35mm cameras (older manual cameras are the
best with detachable lens) and black and white film to experience the
basics of photography and film exposure. Shutter speeds and f-stops will
be explored and participants will record their settings when
photographing. One day two, everyone will process their exposed film (as a
team).
Wen will mail contact sheets of the processed negatives. A
limited number of 35mm cameras are available for rent at $35, if needed.

Introduction
To 35mm B&W and Color Photography

Youth
will use their 35mm cameras and color film to experience the basics of
photography and film exposure. Shutter speeds and f-stops will be explored
and participants will record their settings when photographing. Wen will
demonstrate the advantages of "over" and "under"
exposing for certain lighting conditions. Films will be
collected for over night processing. On day four, students will critique
their processed color images. Student will review their negatives and Wen
will discuss the proper care for handling and storing negatives. They will
select the best two images for framing and mounting. Student will
mount and frame their images. Students will then choose more images
for use on special occasion cards. Participants will learn to make
special occasion cards.
Pagosa
Springs youth participants will spend day one in Wen's darkroom,
printing contact sheets and enlarging from their negatives.
A special opportunity for youth to experience a working darkroom!

35mm Camera Operation
ages
high school-adult
Learn and understand the parts of a camera and how they
function.
Camera maintenance will be discussed. We’ll evaluate f-stop
basics.
You'll not only have a keen understanding of f-stop
characteristics, but also discover the best f-stop decisions for the
image you photograph.
Topics include: aperture depth of field
(minimum and maximum), aperture priority, proper film loading, rewinding
partially exposed rolls of film for re-use, selecting the proper f-stop,
digital verses film camera options, camera manufactures, and purchasing
a camera, lenses, and additional equipment (resources).
Each session FEE is $65
($35 HS Students)

Learn
how to select the right shutter to help create better images.
Advantages of slow and fast shutter speeds will be discussed.
Participants will shoot an assignment during this session with provided
film (black and white or color).
Topics include: slow shutter speed effects, fast shutter speed
effects,
shutter speed camera priority, balancing shutter speed and
aperture,
logistics of shutter speed, and manually setting your shutter speed.
This segment is
dedicated to help you understand why f-stops are important for you to
control. Explore the advantages and disadvantages of film speeds
from ISO 400-3200. Color and Black & white films will be
discussed and demonstrated. Experiment with ISO 3200 black &
white film OR color ISO 800 exposure without a flash.
Topics include:
selecting the
right film speed for the lighting scenario,
using over and under exposure through f-stops, using high film
speeds
instead of camera flash, film manufactures (Kodak, Fuji, Ilford)
options,
film vendor options (the best pricing values), and capturing the
right exposure settings (aperture and shutter).

Flash Systems

Are you interested in obtaining better images using your flash?
This session will give you confidence to easily use your flash.
For
those who don't have a flash- you can rent one for $20
and discover the right flash to purchase!
Topics: Shadowless images, reducing red-eye, using a LumiQuest
bouncer, fast recycle times with battery pack options,
adjusting
exposures for particular lighting conditions.
Topics include: aperture and shutter settings, flash settings (TTL, auto, manual), flash
manufacturer options (Vivitar, Canon, Metz), creating "shadowless"
flash images, using the flash outdoors and indoors, film speed options,
camera hot shoe or camera bracket options, and pc cord adaptors.
Each session FEE is $65

Processing B&W Film
ages

Learn and
understand the processing of black and white film with actual film
processing. Participants may bring film shot from previous classes
or an exposed black and white roll of film. All processing materials are
included in the fee.
Topics include: perils of film processing, step-by-step film
processing
(chart & steps provided), choosing the right film processing
materials
and equipment, vendor resources for materials/equipment purchase.
Participants will process an exposed black and white film roll, with
Wen's supervision.
